Immortal Beloved

  • Twichell Auditorium 580 East Main St. Spartanburg, SC 29302 United States (map)

The season continues its focus on local musicians with this delightful and intimate concert. The program will open with the lovely Pavane by Gabriel Fauré, in which the SPO will accompany the Spartanburg Sings choral ensemble. Following the Pavane, the orchestra will perform Mozart’s Sinfonia Concertante, featuring four local musicians from the orchestra: Ginny Metzger (oboe), Karen Hill (clarinet), Anneka Zuehlke-King (horn), and Frank Watson (bassoon).

The concert will conclude with Ludwig van Beethoven’s gorgeous Eighth Symphony. In the summer of 1812, Beethoven penned two of his most famous and most lasting works: a “little” Symphony in F Major and an exquisite love letter to a woman of mystery. The identity of the woman who received such adoration from the great composer has never been learned, but listen to the joyous music of the Eighth Symphony, and you will hear the elation and love that Beethoven felt for his “Immortal Beloved.”

Program:

  • Fauré, Pavane, op. 50
